Great article, Sierra! Having gone through a lot of these iterations, pivots, and two agents who retired, it certainly resonated! I know so many authors who had similar paths to yours. One said it took them 15 years to be an overnight success! You can certainly say now that you've earned it! Can't wait to read your book!
Thanks for sharing this vulnerable look at your publishing journey. Social media likes to only how the shiny moments, but being a trad author requires grit and the ability to pivot. Appreciate you linking to my newsletter too ❤️
Everything you write is amazing! I'm not sure I have any great suggestions, but one thing I'm struggling with is the thought of starting again when a project dies. I don't know what will happen with my current project. I'm querying slowly but aware that I might not get the agent. But I can't imagine sitting down to write another novel if I can't land representation--not given all the years of belief in this book. How did you get yourself to restart? ❤️
I'll be so interested in your answer! And I hope it lands in a post so others can benefit. Plus, this might take precious time so make it valuable for YOU, too!!!
Oh my gosh I was reading this and nodding along and loving all of this and then saw the shout-out at the end! Thank you!!! (P.S. I just talked to an agent who asked if I’d thought about writing my story as fiction instead of memoir and now my head is exploding, but in a good way! This business is a roller coaster!)
Can definitely relate to this post. I’m so happy for you!
I know you can, Amber! Crazy how this journey is.

Thanks Jerry! I think a lot of those overnight successes have this kind of story.
Definitely! Most that I've heard about!

This is so, so kind. And what a great question. Let me give that some thought and come back to you. I want to organize ideas around that.

Oooh that is so intriguing, turning the memoir into fiction!! I LOVE that!
